Its today

This is it. All the talk of it. All the reading about it. Buying all the equipment. A year of practice walks.

Today started with final packing, breakfast and filling up with water. We were at 1300 metres at the Coffee plantation and it was quite chilly at 6am.

We have a three hour drive to Landarosso gate and then a steep trek to our first campsite at 2650 metres.

The night before the mountain

Sat in the bar at the Moivaro Coffee Plantation in Arusha. I'm having beer called Kilimanjaro - Wayne is still resisting alcohol and is drinking Coca Cola. The group is in good form although the rest of them are late for dinner. 35 degrees here today and they have just started an open fire in the bar!

Two flights. Two breakfasts. It's hot. We've just had our briefing for the mountain. I tried to talk the lads into having a beer but they're all tired.

Sat 28th Jan - Getting ready

I really struggled to get to sleep last night. Lots of thoughts of the trip running through my head. Got up at 1:30 and had a walk round the house.
